Je crois que je n’ai jamais encore parlé de série TV sur le blog. C’est donc le moment de remédier à cela car Bates Motel vaut vraiment le détour.
C’est une série américaine créée par Anthony Cipriano que j’ai eu le temps de découvrir depuis que je suis en congé maternité. Elle relate l’histoire de Norman Bates, un adolescent de 17 ans, qui entretient avec sa mère une relation exclusive un peu étrange. Au début de la série, suite au décès du père de Norman, ils emménagent dans l’Orégon pour redémarrer à zéro dans un manoir ancien, flanqué d’un motel. Norman Bates, c’est aussi le propriétaire du motel dans Psychose de Hitchcock, la série est donc un préquel à rattacher à ce grand classique, ce qui la rend encore plus intéressante…
Premier point : la très grande qualité du jeu des acteurs principaux. Vera Farmiga m’a vraiment bluffée par sa capacité à interpréter sans fausse note, un personnage très complexe qui peut facilement dérouter. Vous passerez certainement par des phases où vous trouverez Norma Bates insupportable, dérangeante, folle, mais vous pourrez également avoir pitié et l’apprécier pour son coté battant et optimiste.
Freddie Highmore, qui interprête Norman, est également multi-facettes. Ce que j’ai particulièrement aimé, c’est qu’il est toujours sur le fil de la normalité, avec un coté très humain. On ne voit pas du tout l’image du tueur de Psychose, mais plutôt un jeune qui peine à prendre son envol, tiraillé de culpabilité et fortement influençable. Il se met facilement en colère mais a aussi un coté plus sensible et naïf…
Second point : l’ambiance étrange à la Twin Peaks et la photographie rétro (bien que l’action se passe à notre époque aux vues des technologies utilisées : ordinateurs, smartphones). L’atmosphère pesante, l’intrigue complexe, tout colle parfaitement au paysage un peu déserté d’une ville où les non-dits font surface.
Bref, je ne veux pas trop vous en dire, mais Bates Motel est une série qui m’a énormément plu. Si vous avez l’occasion de la voir également, n’hésitez pas à me donner votre ressenti.

You might pass through phases in which you will find Norma Bates unbearable, disturbing, crazy, but you can also like her and have mercy because of her beating and optimistic side.
Freddie Highmore, who interprets Norman, is also multi-faceted. What I particularly liked is that he is still on the thread of normality, with a very deep human side. We don’t see the whole picture of the Psycho killer, but rather a young boy, struggling to take off, torn by guilt and highly suggestible. He easily gets angry but also has a sensitive and naive side …
Second point : the strange atmosphere remembering Twin Peaks and retro photography (though the action takes place in our contemporary time according to the technologies used: computers, smartphones). The heavy atmosphere, the complex plot, everything fit perfectly into the deserted landscape of a city where the unspoken emerges.
Anyway, I don’t want to spoil, but Bates Motel is a TV series that I really liked. If you have the opportunity to watch it, don’t hesitate to give me your feelings about it.
