Quoi de mieux qu’un week-end de 3 jours en plein mois d’Août à Paris ? Rien. La ville est vide, on peut même marcher en plein milieu des rues, au soleil, c’est très agréable…
On a décidé de profiter de ces vacances improvisées pour aller au Musée des Arts Décoratifs, près du Louvre. J’y ai souvent vu des expositions temporaires de très grande qualité, sur la mode, la publicité, etc.
En ce moment, il y a deux expositions principales : celle sur l’Art de l’Automobile, qui fera l’objet de ce post, et celle sur Hussein Chalayan, que j’évoquerai prochainement.
Cette exposition sur l’Art de l’Automobile provient de la collection personnelle de Ralph Lauren, qui est un grand collectionneur. Il y a des Bentley, Alfa Romeo, Bugatti, Mercedez-Benz, Jaguar, Porsche, Ferrari, de 1929 au début des années 60.

We decided to enjoy these impromptu holidays to go to the Museum of Decorative Arts, near the Louvre. I have often seen exhibitions of high quality, on fashion, advertising, etc..
Right now, there are two major exhibitions: one on the Art of the Automobile, which will be the subject of this post, and one of Hussein Chalayan, that I will discuss shortly.
This exhibition on the Art of the Automobile comes from the personal collection of Ralph Lauren, which is a great collector. There are Bentley, Alfa Romeo, Bugatti, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Porsche, Ferrari, from 1929 to the early 60’s.

Je ne suis habituellement pas très attirée par les bolides à moteur, mais là, on pouvait voir, sur des automobiles d’usage routier « grand tourisme » ou de course, différentes approches de design au fil du temps, comparer leur évolution et c’était très intéressant.
Les moteurs imposants de technicité, les lignes aérodynamiques des carrosseries rutilantes et le soin apporté à chaque détail témoignent de la passion d’un créateur pour l’idée de style et la recherche de la beauté.
I’m usually not very attracted to motor cars, but for this exhibition, it’s different. On road or racing cars, we could appreciate different approaches to design over time, compare their evolution and it was really interesting.
Mighty technical engines, aerodynamic lines, gleaming bodywork and the care given to every detail, reflect the passion Ralph Lauren has for style and search for beauty.
