Je n’ai pas eu l’occasion de vous en parler lors de sa sortie cinéma. Le fait de l’avoir sur les étals hier en magasin, m’a rappelé le coup de cœur que j’ai eu en début d’année, en accompagnant mon homme voir ce film d’horreur / épouvante.
« It follows » (Prix de la critique internationale au Festival de Deauville 2014) de David Robert Mitchell dont c’est le deuxième film après un « The myth of the american sleepover » qui n’avait pas eu la primeur d’une sortie en France.
I have not had the opportunity to tell you about it when it was still in theaters. Seing it on the shelves in stores yesterday, reminded me of the heart stroke I had earlier this year, accompanying my man see this horror film.
« It Follows » (International Critics Award at the Deauville Film Festival in 2014) from David Robert Mitchell, from whom it’s the second film after « The myth of the American sleepover » who had not had the chance to be released in French theaters.

Revenons à « It follows ». Rarement film de genre et notamment un film d’épouvante / horreur n’aura suscité un engouement aussi unanime de la part de la presse et du public.
S’inspirant du cinéma d’horreur des années 70 et 80 c’est un souffle d’air frais dans le cinéma de genre, loin des dernières vagues de found footage et autres films de possession… Avec un concept simple mais qui fait froid dans le dos.
Let’s go back to « It Follows« . Rarely a genre film or an horror film aroused unanimous enthusiasm from the press and the public.
Inspired by the 70’s and the 80’s horror film, It Folows is a breath of fresh air into the genre film, far from the latest waves of found footage and other possession films … With a simple concept that sends shivers down back.

À partir de ce postulat simple, l’auteur nous offre une mise en scène et une photographie électrifiantes, chaque plan, chaque travelling est travaillé et beau. La bande-son très efficace, nous rappelle sans cesse les meilleurs moments de John Carpenter. L’atmosphère étrange est très angoissante, la tension est constante et en permanence liée à la bande son. David Robert Mitchell évite les « jump scares » gratuits propres au cinéma de genre récent. Les seuls présents sont travaillés et liés à la mise en scène et à la montée crescendo de la tension. Autre point que le cinéma de genre récent semble oublier est le travail sur les personnages. Tous sont détaillés, aucun n’est laissé de côté et l’on se prend à s’attacher à chacun d’eux.
From this simple premise, the author offers an electrifying staging and photography, each plan, each traveling is worked beautifully. The soundtrack is very efficient reminding us the best moments of John Carpenter. The strange atmosphere is very scary, you are tensed constantly and permanently because of the soundtrack effect. David Robert Mitchell avoids unecessary « jump scares » like you can see on recent genre movies. Only present moments are related to the staging and the rising crescendo of tension. Another point is that the recent genre cinema seems to forget is the work on the characters. All are detailed, none is left out and you can focus on each of them.



Malgré le fait que la mise en scène ne soit pas très conventionnelle pour ce genre de film (on est plus proche du film indépendant que du film d’horreur), que certaines transitions soient un peu sèches, la réalisation et la bande son nous font largement oublier tout ça et nous avons là, un petit bijou de frayeur. Un de ces films qui vous hantent encore longtemps en sortant de la salle. C’est le même sentiment que j’avais eu après la projection de « Starry Eyes » et plus récemment dans un autre registre « Mad Max – Fury Road » qui valent vraiment le détour en tant qu’expérience sensorielle.

Although the staging is not very conventional for this kind of film (it is closer to an independent horror fim), some little dry transitions, directop, and soundtrack make us largely forget about it and we have a real horrific jewel. One of those movies that haunt you for a long time out of the room. It’s the same feeling I had had after the screening of « Starry Eyes » and more recently in another register, « Mad Max – Fury Road, » which are really worth as a sensory experience.
